My wooden barrel has dried out. What do I do?
-
Wooden barrels are made of oak that has been dried in the open air. For this reason, the humidity of these products ranges from 14 to 16% (compared to 7-8% of dryer-dried wood for furniture), so it’s completely normal for an empty barrel to dry out in a room that is too dry.
Place your barrel on the bottom, find a mallet and a convenient piece of metal to place on the edge of the barrel’s hoop.
Screw out the tap. If you can't do it, make sure you don't damage it by securing it between two bricks, etc. and making sure that the barrel is stable.
Put on the hoops if they have fallen and hammer them towards the wide part of the barrel with a mallet.
